Essential Oil Safety Advice

Essential Oils are highly concentrated and should be treated with respect.

Always dilute an essential oil in base oil before applying it to the skin.
Keep to our recommended dosages and dilutions.

Dilutions for children and the elderly are given and should be followed and professional advice should always be obtained if you are uncertain.

Do not use on children under 1 year, without prior consultation with a qualified Aromatherapist.

Bergamot Citrus bergamia, grapefruit Citrus paradisi, lemon Citrus limonum and orange bitter Citrus aurantium var. amara citrus oils can cause photosensitive reactions* and you should therefore avoid exposing the skin to the sun or using a sun bed for at least 12 hours after using them.

*Photosensitive reaction means that rapid tanning and severe sunburn can occur

Always keep essential oils out of reach of children.

Do not take essential oils internally. If they are accidentally swallowed, seek medical aid immediately. Do not induce vomiting and do not give anything to drink before medical advice is sought.

Do not put essential oils, even diluted, into the eyes. If essential oils come into contact with the eyes accidentally, wash out with copious amounts of water. If there is any reddening or soreness of the eye seek medical advice immediately.

If you suffer from epilepsy, have high or low blood pressure or any other medical condition; please seek the advice of a professional aromatherapist or medical practitioner before using any essential oil.

If you are pregnant, seek advice from a fully qualified Aromatherapist, preferably one who is a member of the ‘International Federation of Aromatherapists’ before using any essential oil.

Always store essential oils in a box with a lid or in a cupboard away from direct sunlight. It is recommended that you keep them cool but they do not need to be kept in the refrigerator.
